Park People Applaud Passage of 0.5% Dedicated Sales Tax

The Park People of Milwaukee County issued the following statement regarding the passage of AB504 - a 0.5% sales tax for Milwaukee County parks, recreation & culture - by the Ways and Means committee of the Wisconsin State Assembly:

"We're very pleased the Assembly is moving forward with a secure dedicated funding source for the Milwaukee County Parks system," said Park People Board President Dan Cody. "As recent reports have made crystal clear, now more than ever our parks need a secure and dedicated funding source to address the mountain of deferred maintenance and ensure the viability of our public parks for generations to come."

"Parks Director Sue Black and her staff deserve credit and recognition for the job they've done in maintaining and managing our parks, but they can't keep pulling rabbits out of their hats forever. We feel a dedicated funding source will finally provide them with the resources they need to not only stop the bleeding, but get back on track to making our County Parks system the envy of the entire Country," Cody said.

The Park People of Milwaukee County are joined by everyone who enjoys the wonderful parks, recreation and cultural services in Milwaukee County by asking the full Assembly to move quickly on passage of Assembly Bill 504.
