Congratulations Milwaukee County Parks!

Congratulations to the Milwaukee County Parks Department on winning the National Recreation and Park Association's Gold Medal Award!

The Park People of Milwaukee County wish to congratulate the Milwaukee County Parks Department for winning the 2009 National Gold Medal for Excellence in the Park and Recreation Management Program awarded by the National Recreation and Parks Association.

“We’re very proud of Director Sue Black and her entire staff for winning this major award,” said Dan Cody, Board President of The Park People. “It’s great to see the director and her staff recognized for their management of Milwaukee County Parks and innovative approach to developing community and corporate partnerships.”

Finalists and winners of the National Gold Medal are selected each year by a distinguished panel of leaders from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and the National Recreation and Park Association from submissions from all 50 states. Other finalists included park systems from Bakersfield, CA, Raleigh, NC and Fort Worth,TX.

“Our parks director is well known for her resourcefulness and ‘can do’ attitude throughout the Country and we’re very lucky in Milwaukee County to have a person like her in charge of our public parks,” said Cody. The Park People encourage the community to show its appreciation by signing an “E-card” on our Web site at http://ParkPeopleMKE.org, which will be sent to Director Black and Milwaukee County Park staff.
